Poster day for Rachel and Julia
Julia and Rachel are High School Alliance participants who shadowed researchers in the Ronning lab this fall. The culmination of that time was the Poster session for the entire HSA cohort. What a great group of students.
Rasangi’s defense celebration
To commemorate Rasangi’s many contributions to the Ronning lab and her successful defense, the Ronning lab met for dinner at La Bouvette in Omaha’s Old Market for a spectacular evening of French food and drinks. Rasangi’s sister joined us as well. This also marks the first Ronning lab outing with Malia as part of the group. Welcome Malia.

Rasangi successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation today. Congratulations and thank you for all your hard work and intelligent thinking.
UNEMED innovation award night
My great friend Jared Anderson from Iowa State University visited UNMC to give a seminar, so I decided to bring him to the UNEMED innovation award banquet to experience how we celebrate and acknowledge research innovation in Omaha. It was a great night. His seminar the next day was great as well. Thanks for visiting, Jared.
Decided to have a start of fall lab lunch
We walked over to Blackstone to get a Ronning lab lunch before Saabea and Soma left the lab. We also welcomed Zalak and Rajashree, new rotation students, to the Ronning lab.
Ronning Lab Cookout
The Ronning lab celebrated the end of the summer with the annual cookout. In attendance where the Ronning lab residents and those Ronning lab participants who will be missed when the summer ends: rotation student Soma, Saabea, and Brittany. Evelyn will be ending her internship with the Ronning lab. We wish you all luck with your future research.

Research Day commemorates the accomplishments of Jonathan Vennerstrom
Research day celebrated my colleague Jonathan Vennerstrom and his numerous accomplishments. Among others, Courtney Aldrich (U of MN) and Vennerstrom lab alum Dan Flaherty (Purdue U) joined us for the celebration on the UNMC campus.
First useful Cryo-EM images
Part of the Ronning lab traveled to Iowa State to try some cryo-EM experiments. We commemorated the apparent success with a selfie.
Research day for area high school students
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo hosted area high school students as they presented posters on their research. Bryan did an awesome job presenting his data.
